So began the history of Bitcoin 12 years ago

It is 12 years since August 18, 2008, the day on which the website Bitcoin.org was first registered. This marks the beginning of the history of Bitcoin and cryptocurrencies.

According to Theymos, pseudonym of a BitcoinTalk forum administrator, the domain Bitcoin.org was registered by Satoshi Nakamoto via the AnonymousSpeech.com platform. From there, domain registrations can be done anonymously. Bitcoin.org currently confirms that Nakamoto was one of the people who registered the page, and mention that developer Martti Malmi was also involved. In addition, they explain that when Nakamoto abandoned the project, he granted ownership of the domain to additional people who were not Bitcoin developers. This was done to distribute and decentralize responsibility for that website.

Currently, as reported on the website itself, Bitcoin.org is managed by the developers of the Bitcoin core and by other members with community input, and also clarify that "it is not an official page". They explain this by saying that "just as no one owns email technology, no one owns the Bitcoin network" and that, therefore, "no one can speak on behalf of Bitcoin".

Bitcoin.org Was it paid for with Craig Wright's credit card?

Australian Craig Wright, who on numerous occasions claimed to be the name Satoshi Nakamoto and currently promotes the Altcoin Bitcoin Satoshi Vision (BSV) and leads his development, said he himself financed the domain Bitcoin.org with his credit card.

"Yes, as crazy as you may seem, I used my credit card to buy anonymous services,"

Wright says in an article published by himself on the Medium platform. As evidence Wright published an image verifying payment for a Hosting service for the domain Bitcoin.org. Unfortunately for him, it was subsequently demonstrated that AnonymousSpeech allows anyone to pay for hosting services for existing domains no matter who owns them.

Bitcoin.org today

Bitcoin.org is the consulting site par excellence for those who want to take their first steps in Bitcoin. There are tutorials, wallet comparison, technical information about Bitcoin, as well as the possibility to acquire the cryptocurrency with the intermediation of the services of the company Moon Pay. The website is available in 27 languages, and its domain is currently under the possession of the well-known developer with the Cobra-Bitcoin nickname, although that has been a matter of dispute.

The last domain update was made anonymously on November 24, 2019. The service provider was the company NameCheap which, as reported by CriptoNews, accepts payments in Bitcoin. It should be clarified, especially for newcomers to the cryptocurrency ecosystem, that Bitcoin.org has nothing to do with Bitcoin.com. That is the website of the Bitcoin Cash (BCH) altcoin, born after a hard fork of the Bitcoin blockchain in 2017.
